6 Days Left of Memphis….Hola Barcelona!! |
|
Ah first blog so be patient with me! I can’t believe my winter break is almost over! It has seriously zipped by. Oh well, I better enjoy these last few days of the delta blue. Happy New Year! Hi Philinese,
You sound so excited! I hope you get to travel to all of the locations you listed. Those were my target cities, too (did them all!) and they were all wonderful.
Don’t let thoughts of pick-pocketing get you down, though! Just be careful. I was in Barcelona last spring and I managed all semester without being robbed. Make sure that you have a purse that zips closed and that you can wear across your chest. Always have a hand on your purse, especially on the Metro and on La Rambla, and in any type of crowd. Do not keep anything — phone, camera, wallet — in your pockets, unless you want it stolen! Keep it all in your purse. A few weeks in, you’ll be programmed to avoid pickpocketing, and keeping a hand on your purse and making sure it’s zipped shut and around your shoulder will be second nature. Just commit to it, and you’ll be fine!
Have a GREAT semester!

Hey Philinese,
I also studied in Barcelona last spring as well! I felt the same way before I left (though I am not certain I did as much reading!) I have to say it sounds like you’ve got a good travel plan; I did London, Madrid, and Amsterdam—Great cities.
On pickpocketing I can’t agree with Jennifer more! I wasn’t pickpocketed in Barcelona either (neither were any of my friends on the program!) Personally, I just didn’t carry too much of value with me when I walked around. Usually I just had a few Euros so I could get lunch or buy something if I wanted, my drivers license (as a form of ID), a credit card (sometimes), and my Metro card. I know my friends who were girls if they did carry purses with them they always kept them on their person and never put them on the ground.
I think the way you’ve prepared yourself, you’re set to have an awesome semester!
Keep the comments coming,
Josh
