Champagne StudyParis BIA, Spring 2012
This week I went with the Luxury Marketing class on their field study to the Champagne region of France! I learned all about the process of making champagne and the strict rules of production. It is illegal to call sparkling wine champagne if it was not made in the Champagne region.
- The first champagne house we visited was called Castellane.
- They produce about 5 million bottles of champagne a year!
- We got to go on a tour of the sellers and see where they make and bottle the champagne.
- These gardens belong to Moët & Chandon, which is located in the town of Épernay.
- During the second fermentation process the bottles are stored in a very specific way.
- The second champagne house was called Corbon and was much smaller. They only produce 15,000 bottles a year.
