A Day In KamakuraTokyo, Spring 2009
- At the entrance of Enkakuji Temple. Pretty, isn’t it?
- One of the many Buddha cravings I saw at the Enkakuji Temple
- The Shari-den is the shrine that holds a sacred tooth of Buddha inside!
- The endless stairs we took to get to the “National Treasure”. It turned out to be a the Temple Bell which was donated in 1301 for the welfare of Japan!
- At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine! There was a wedding going on at the time too!
- Here’s another view of the Shrine.. and how crowded it was!
- The Great Buddha! It is the second biggest Buddha statue in the world.
- A look at the beautiful Hase-dera Temple which holds the famous statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, and its eleven heads that represent a characteristic of the goddess.
- A long line of Buddha statues
- Inside the small cave next to the Bentendo
- A very cute statue of Buddha!
Yesterday a group of us went to Kamakura kudos to IES sponsoring it. It was very hot and humid throughout the day, but that did not stop us from enjoying the temples and having fun! Kamakura is known for its temples and shrines, and I would highly recommend anyone to spend a day there if they are in the Tokyo area. It is definitely worth the trip out there!
