日本へようこそ!Tokyo-Society & Culture, Fall 2009

My first week in Japan has been pretty hectic! There’s a lot of school stuff to get sorted out, and of course, new friends to meet and places to explore. The first “cultural activity” was on Wednesday; a group of us went to the washitsu (和室; Japanese-style room) at Kanda University of International Studies and tried on yukata (浴衣; lightweight, informal cotton kimono) with the help of some student volunteers.
Of course, everyone’s been a little jet-lagged, but on the bright side, I don’t usually get to see the sunrise and it was absolutely beautiful here. So far, we’re all in the “honeymoon stage” of study abroad, so we’re very excited about the pretty sunrises and delicious food.

  1. Leslie, it’s great to see a new post here! Sounds like you’re having fun and enjoying new sights and new friends! Good for you!

  2. I went for the language intensive program at Meikai Fall 2008. Did you do stay with a host family? You’ll meet a lot of Japanese students at Kanda. I miss Japan so much. It was one of the best four months of my life. The field trips are going to rock. Daiji Shin is the bomb.
