So…Where’s Mickey Mouse?Madrid, Spring 2011

After saying goodbye to my life in Madrid (and my biggest fan back at IES, Angel) I headed off the next day to Barcelona to meet up with a friend from back home. It’s funny during my time in Barcelona I visited the required sites like the Sagrada Familia, Museu Picasso, Las Ramblas and Park Güell, but the entire time I felt like I was in the Florida of Spain. It portrayed a slightly skewed version of Spanish culture, not the true rich passion I have come to find in the many other parts of Spain I have visited thus far. When a tourist says they’ve been to the states, but has only been to Miami, they are missing a true piece of the cultural puzzle of what is the US, the same goes for Barcelona. Maybe I’m just biased with my love for Madrid and Sevilla, but that didn’t stop me from looking around for Mickey Mouse somewhere.
