Vienna at Last!Vienna Music, Fall 2012
After a year and a half of planning, two semesters of taking extra courses, and thirteen hours of travel, I have finally made it to Vienna. I decided to arrive a day before my program starts and thus am staying at the Airport Hotel, which so far has been quite pleasant.
I did not lose any baggage, my flights were on time, and I even got a window seat with no one else in my row on the last leg of my trip (score!). But I have to admit, I was significantly more nervous than I thought I was going to be on that trip. I wasn’t nervous about flying or anything like that, and I’ve been abroad a couple times before this. I think it was just sudden realization that I’m not just here for a vacation, I’ll be living in this city for the next four months. It’s kind of a scary thought but also incredibly exciting. I love trying new things and meeting new people so I’m sure I am going to have an amazing time.
Tomorrow my program officially starts with a weekend orientation in Mariazell, which is in the Styrian Alps, at a youth and family sports hostel. It looks like it should be a lot of fun and I’m very excited to meet the other students in my program. As for now though, since I was not blessed with the gift of being able to sleep on planes and thus am pretty much a zombie right now, it is time for me to take a very long nap.
