I went to see Ice Age 3 last weekend in Spanish with a group so I could practice my knowledge of the language. I figured that a children's film would be the best way to ease myself into watching movies down here in Santiago. A couple of things should be noted when you go to see a movie here.
1) they will offer you two types of popcorn when you go to the concession stand. The first is your standard movie popcorn (salado) and they will use a lot less butter on it as they do in the states. The second is "dulce", which basically is kettle-corn (for those who've not had it, make your popcorn coated with a sweet/crunchy glaze) and this went amazingly with the movie.
2) If you go to see a cartoon movie, all of the voices are dubbed with Spanish actors, so don't fret if you don't understand all the jokes or think its weird that the character doesn't sound how you think he/she should.
3) Movie theathers are extremely large here, but there are less screens so there will be more people in the theater at a time than what you are normally used to.
So anyone who is interested in going to movies while down here, I recommend seeing something in Spanish that can help you practice (a lot of American made live-action films aren't dubbed). It may seem difficult at first, but will really help you in the long run and you might even enjoy the movie a lot more. Also, Ice Age 3 was fun, not the best movie ever, but fun!!
