国庆节 - The 60th Anniversary Parade

For those of you who do not know, today (October 1st) is an especially special day in Chinese history, because it is the 60th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Security is tight, restrictions are in place, and in true Chinese fashion, no expense is spared to make sure that it is a successful day. Being in Beijing for the festivities I was able to watch the parade from the only allowed spot, the couch of my home stay. However! One awesome thing is since I was on the parade route; I could get a little bit of video of both the planes that flew over the huge military parade, but also some of the vehicles that passed nearby. One of the cooler experiences in my life, because for China this event is big every 5 years, and is HUGE every 10.

On this short video, you can see some of the airplanes, tanks, and helicopters that passed by. Also, there are some shots of the spectators that formed, even though they were not supposed to. I do not know if it is available within the US, but if you get some time hop onto CCTV (The official Chinese media) and take a look at some of the video of the official parade within Tian’anmen Square. It was truly a sight to see with the massive amount of military vehicles, people, floats, and people who changed hats to spell out characters in the crowd. Certainly, the PRC was (and did) going to make sure that this day ran as a perfect spectacle to the people.
