Where the Wild Things AreCape Town, Spring 2011
Yesterday I got back from an amazing road trip with three of my roommates. The Saturday after class ended we flew to Durban on the east coast of South Africa and for the rest of the week travelled down the coastline back to Cape Town. We stopped first in Port St. John’s. We did a hike through the jungle; saw the beach (with cows on it), and watched the sunset from the highest point of Port St. John’s (so beautiful). Next we went to Coffee Bay and hitched a ride to hole in the wall, which is basically this massive hole in the middle of a huge rock in the ocean. It was beautiful and we are lucky we got to see it! Then we hung out on the beach, and had an amazing home-cooked dinner at the backpackers. Next we made our way to East London and visited the lion park where we saw a lot of different animals including cheetahs and baby lions! After that we travelled to Plettenberg Bay and hung out on the beach, and then made our way to Cape Agulhus, which is the southernmost tip of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. We watched the sunrise there before making our way back to Cape Town. This trip was amazing and I am so glad that I got to see so much more of South Africa because the countryside that we travelled through was vastly different than anything that I had seen along the Garden Route or in Cape Town. Now it’s time for finals and then home in two weeks!
