The Story I HeardCape Town, Spring 2011
Amazingly, I managed to survive the thirty-hour plane ride to Cape Town and I am so happy to actually be here! The idea of studying abroad in Cape Town has been floating around in my mind for a while but it didn’t really sink in that I was actually here until I woke up the morning after arriving and saw table mountain looming outside my window. I’ve heard about Cape Town, and how beautiful it is, but the pictures truly don’t do it justice. Another aspect I expected and heard about before coming to Cape Town was crime. So far orientation has been a lot about crime and how to prevent it, but outside of that I have not felt unsafe in the least. Our house is very secure and I will truly be impressed if anyone manages breaking in here. Going out at night, obviously in any big city, not just Cape Town, anyone would need to be aware. We went out last night and my experience was just that the people were friendly and helpful, and I never felt unsafe. I’ve only been here two days but already I am having so much fun; I can’t wait to find out how the rest of the 136 days here turn out.
- The beautiful UCT campus (I can’t believe this is my school!)
- The view from Bo Kaaps, the delicious restaurant we ate at for orientation
- Some yummy food we made at Bo Kaaps for orientation!
