My Family Visits!Dublin, Spring 2012

I leave on Saturday and I'm not ready to go! I have one paper left and I'm almost finished with it, so naturally I decided to stop working on it and distract myself by writing this blog. My family was in Dublin last week, so I got to show them some of my favorite things and have some new Irish experiences with them. We took a day trip out to Howth, did a Traditional Irish Music Pub Crawl, ate some delicious food, and saw a funny show at Project Arts Centre. The two new and exciting things we did were a day trip to Kilkenny and bike riding in Phoenix Park. Kilkenny was a great little medieval town with a castle at one end and a cathedral at the other. Like all bus tours, the views out of the window were beautiful. The green Irish countryside never gets old! We rented bikes and spent the afternoon biking from the entrance to the opposite end to visit Farmleigh Mansion. It was a gift from the Guinness family to the Irish government. The bike ride was fun and easy and the reward was sweet. At Farmleigh, there is a boathouse cafe with great food. Plus, there are beautiful flowers, donkeys, horses, and cows on the Farmleigh grounds. I liked it so much I went back the next day with a friend! Caroline at IES always suggests it and few people take her up on it, but it really is one of the best ways to spend a day in Dublin. Now, back to finishing that paper...
