Reflections on Oxford – A Year Later
When asked to provide a post about how study abroad has changed my life, I doubted it had. As a student who already spent a few years living abroad, independently and in non-English speaking countries, I didn’t think England had really changed me. After some thought, I realized it has.

Looking back, Looking ahead
Today marks one week since I returned to the States, but already Oxford seems like a distant memory. I found that the program and experience were wonderful, not only as a means to an end (broadening my skill set, knowledge, and assets), but also as an end in and of itself. Now, I’m happy to be back and looking ahead to new goals, adventures and lessons for 2010.

Feeling at ease just before I leave. Thoughts and photos two weeks before term’s end.
With two weeks remaining for me in Oxford, I’m finally starting to feel at home here after churning through a range of mixed feelings. Now, I’ve learned to respect the place in a more genuine way than I did when I first arrived and admired some pretty buildings.

Some shots of Oxford & Snowdonia Marathon, and a quick clip, too
After three weeks in Oxford, I’ve had little time to write about the thrills and frustrations of this unique place. I have taken a few photos, however, of some of the places around town, where I go to class (in a 500 year old building..) and my marathon in Snowdonia, Wales. Take a peek.

Finally in Oxford
My initial impressions: eight weeks is far too short, and I’m a bit sad I didn’t come here for the full year. There are so many amazing activities, community centres, music nights, open mics, libraries, clubs, races and general mayhem to participate in, I’m sure I’ll be having a great time until I leave.

Exploring London, hitting the books and pounding the pavement
So, in order to get a few more credits, I chose a program that allows me to direct enroll into Oxford and do a three week short course in London before term, giving me another 3 credits. This also obviously lends me the great opportunity to spend a few weeks in London, learning my way around the city and enjoying its endless events and activities.

Cycling through Ireland, storytelling that changed my life, a visit in Wales and my return to London
Perhaps it was something in the salty air, perhaps it was the comfort and familiarity of good friends and a warm bed, but somehow I ended up staying a few more days in Corrymeela than planned.

Through England and Scotland and into Ireland on my bike – learning what touring is all about.
I arrived in London almost two weeks ago and have spent the past several days cycling around the UK and into Ireland. I’ve met dozens of amazing people, climbed peaks, and been welcomed into strangers homes and yards – and it’s all just beginning.
