Sara Choi Kunming, Summer 2012

Sara Choi hails from New York City and has recently been blessed with many opportunities to satisfy her city-girl desires to travel the world. She is a Biology and Environmental Studies double major at Amherst College and is an editor for the college yearbook. In London where she is currently spending a semester abroad, you can find her rehearsing with the university's a cappella group, studying at pubs, or shopping in local markets. Her hobbies include photography and cooking, both of which are highly cultivated during her many travels. Join her as she journeys from Europe to Southeast Asia for a summer of education and culture!

  After 5 weeks in lovely Kunming, we finally embarked on our SE Asia mobile learning tour to Thailand, (Myanmar) and Laos! To be honest, it felt like I was leaving home when I packed up my Yun Da room and said goodbye to my Chinese teacher. It was a bittersweet departure knowing that the next time I’m back, I’ll only have three days in Kunming before it’s all over.

  What do you do when you’re in northern Thailand near the border of Myanmar? You hop across the border, of course, even if it’s just for a passport stamp! This detour wasn’t initially planned for our SE Asia trip but everyone was pretty excited to go so we went ahead and got our visas for a short afternoon side trip.
