Been there, learned from those mistakes: A Letter to my Pre-departure Self.
Last night we had our farewell dinner with our full IES group and I had an idea! I thought I would put together a ‘letter to my younger self’ but instead set the audience as a pre-darted IES: Auckland student.

Kai = food = ♥
Kai is the maori word for food and when I asked some of my fellow student abroad friends they all mentioned food when incapsulating their experiences in New Zealand. Enjoy an album filled with some fun food shots from my stay in New Zealand

“Climbers aim for the summit because it is there. Bungee jumpers dive off the top because they aren’t all there.”
I did a lot of research into the various bungee jumping companies in New Zealand and none has as flawless a record as Taupo Bungy. On day two of our road trip through the North Island we made it Taupo.

We drove to Matamata (Hobbiton) on our way to Rotorua but half of our group stayed to do the LOTR tour.

Through IES I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a week in Rarotonga, the largest of the 15 Cook Islands.

A mountain with hiccups
March 6th started with breakfast and sneakily making extra pb&j sandwiches for our picnic lunch atop a volcano. Yes, a volcano.

Getting used to driving on the left isn’t difficult at all — I just go the same way as the other cars on the road, remembering to keep myself close to the center of the road.

Love&Rebuilding
Although we were not affected directly by the earthquake many people at The University of Auckland have family in Christchurch and have been hit emotionally. Please keep these students and faculty in your thoughts and prayers.

New Zealand is a most magical place. The scenery is unforgettable, the people are incredibly genuine and welcoming and the overall culture is efficient yet stress-free.
