Lindsay Beck Nantes, Fall 2010

Lindsay lived the first twelve years of her life in London, moved to Pennsylvania, and then chose to attend Davidson College in North Carolina. By nationality, she’s half American and half English. She can’t wait to continue her multi-cultural life experience in Nantes. She is an English major (appropriately, given the accent and upbringing) with too many ideas of what she wants to do with her life. She has studied both French and Spanish, sings, and loves photography. Lindsay looks forward to becoming fluent in French, walking French streets, taking French pictures and being immersed in the French culture of Nantes this semester!

  We were warned, on our “Re-Entry” presentation at IES, about the “U” that often occurs upon returning home from a study abroad. The dreadful “U” involves falling from the high that is study abroad and its constant new experiences, down to depths of the U which is the relative dullness of being home, and then slowly building back up to normalcy (and the realization that life back in the US isn’t SO bad).

  Aside from “les devoirs”, this week will also involve IES’ Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday night (!) for which I will be helping provide some of the entertainment by singing–with some others–”Wagon Wheel” and “Aux Champs Elysees”.

  It’s quite surreal to have been in so many different places within just one month—I have been to Dublin, Ireland, Paris, France, and Geneva, Switzerland. When I booked my flights and planned out my study abroad semester those trips seemed far off, but they have quickly come and gone!
