Home Sweet Home
The flight home was a bit rough. I wasn’t prepared for the brashness of the American flight attendants or the size of American people on my way back, but I was lucky enough to get bumped up to first class for my last flight.

Sayonara Nagoya (さよなら名古屋)
I can’t believe it.
My time in Nagoya is already coming to end, in fact…in exactly 4 hours my host father and mother will be driving me to the airport.

Nara Day Trip (奈良旅行)
There is so much culture and art to see around the Todaiji, with its massive elaborate Buddha flanked by equally large Bodhisattvas, as well as the surrounding temples, museums and shrines.

Kyoto-Kinkakuji and Arashiyama IES Trip Day 2 (京都の金閣寺と嵐山)
Nijo Castle, The Golden Temple, and a rickshaw ride in Arashiyama. What more could you want from the cultural capital of Japan?

Atsuta Jingu (熱田神宮)
It is definitely one of the most beautiful areas I’ve seen around Nagoya, it’s full of trees, and many beautiful little paths to various smaller prayer places.

Takayama IES Trip (高山の旅行)
Always interesting as usual, but for this trip we traveled north into the mountains near Takayama, visited Shirakawa village and an old government office, made waxed food, while also of course taking it easy in the onsen (hot bath) of our traditional Japanese style inn.

Toyota Shirakawa Go-Eco-Institute (トヨタ白川自然學校)
The IES kids got a little wild in the woods with the Toyota Wilderness team.

Wicked Awesome Weekend
Saturday morning I had brunch near Fukushimi with some friends, then went to see the musical Wicked in Japanese. It’s one of my favorites, but I think it loses a little something when translated.

Kyoto for Robin’s Birthday (京都でロビンの誕生日を祝うこと)
My first trip to Kyoto for Robin’s birthday was SO FUN. I got right off the train and walked to Sanjusangen-do Hall (The Hall of a Thousand Buddhas).

Kanazawa IES Trip (金沢の旅行)
I’ve compiled some of the best photos from our latest IES abroad trip, where we went to Eiheiji temple, another Japanese style inn, gold plating, sightseeing, and sweet making in Kanazawa.

Running Nagoya- Track and Field at Nanzan University(南山の陸上部)
So I was missing my Westrack family today at track practice and I thought I would just give everyone a little overview of the sports scene at Nanzan, and in Japan in general.

My Homestay (わたしのホームステイ)
It’s been a hectic first couple weeks and they’ve been so great to me, I don’t know how Nanzan decides to pair students and families, but for me they definitely made the perfect match.

Nanzan University-南山大学
These are a short compilation of views of Nanzan University and some of the more popular areas, Sakae and Osu, which I’ve seen out and about during the first week or so.

IES Orientation-Inuyama 犬山のオリエンテーション
Thankfully everyone in our group made it to our Inuyama Orientation, despite Hurricane Irene and the large typhoon in Japan.
