Reflections on Quito – A Year Later
It feels both like a lifetime ago and at the same time only yesterday that I left. There is no question in my mind that study abroad changed my life, my perspective, and broadened my mind to a completely different world.

The list keeps growing
Studying abroad (at the risk of sounding horribly stereotypical and corny) was an eye opening, life changing experience that I would not change for anything. There is not a single thing I would change about my experience in Ecuador.

Time doesn’t stop, even when you really want it to.
Well this is it. The last post of the official school year. I really can’t believe it. This has been the most amazing semester.
-
Jardin Botanico
I wanted an internship that was somehow related to Environmental studies. Jardin was close to the IES building and therefore easy get to. I am so happy I had the opportunity to work there!

Then there was the last great adventure (before the next adventure).
Well, we tossed around the idea of Cuenca again, among other things, but I’d been trying to put together a group to rafting. It had been proving more difficult than I thought because I was trying to get enough people to make it more affordable. Eventually, with the people I’d gathered we decided, screw it. We’re in Ecuador, its still a good price, lets just do it.

Cotopaxi, and dancing all night, Ecuador in a nutshell
With only a month left of classes its getting down the wire. I really can’t believe its so close to being over.

Los Galapagos, un mundo aparte de todo
It’s officially official. Ecuador is probably one of the coolest places on Earth (as if I hadn’t already come to that conclusion! HA!)

So we didn’t make it to the top…
The last couple weeks in Quito have flown by so fast. I can hardly believe that April is upon us and that I’m leaving for the Galapagos this Thursday.

Baños – no this is not a post about bathrooms
Last weekend, just three days after getting back from Cuenca we peaced out again to a town about 3 hours by bus from Quito called Baños. This is not a small town infamous for bathrooms but for its hotsprings.

Cuenca, I’ll be back
Overall, Cuenca was my favorite trip thus far.

So I am actually taking classes too…
It was brought to my attention that I have said very little about my classes here. I am taking classes while trying to see as much of Ecuador as I possibly can. I am unfortunately only taking one class at the university IES partners with, la Potificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador (aka la Catolica) because [...]

La amazonia, donde comimos hormigas de limon (where we ate lemon ants)
4 days in the Amazon. It was everything and more, it was hot, it rained, it was breathtaking.

That whole altitude thing… they weren’t kidding
Last weekend I decided to stay in Quito because four weekends away in a row seemed a little excessive. It was a nice break, and I was able to do some pretty cool things.

Adventuras en Mindo y la playa Same
Well since I last posted we have started classes and begun exploring outside of Quito. Two weekends ago a large group of us visited Mindo, a tiny little town in a cloud forest in the western Andean slopes.

El Centro, Otavalo, Cotocachi, y Cascadas de Peguche. ¡Qué chévere!
Well it’s official, I have been here over a week. There were definitely random times throughout the first week when I would think to myself, “I’m in Quito.” and I couldn’t help but smile.

Predeparture post, or a few days post departure
Hola amigos! Today was my second full day in Quito! It was a long road to get here full of paper work and more planning than I ever dreamed I was capable of. But I’m so happy to be here.
