Camille Rice rss Milan, Spring 2012

Camille Rice is a junior at Whittier College majoring in Art and Art History. Her focus is in photography and hopes to be able to work in the fashion industry in the future. She is excited to be in Milan, Italy and surrounded by a culture rich in history and art. She has wanted to go to Milan since graduating high school and is glad she is able to do this program with IES. She hopes the experience will fill her with a new ideas and inspiration.

    The IES program end date is getting closer. I am getting ready for finals and finishing last projects but, I have a trip to Florence planned for the weekend and one last trip to Paris with one of my roommates on June 11th.

  • Culture and Cuisine in Italy

    Before spring break started I went on the Culture and Cuisine trip put together by IES. During this trip a bus lugged around all of us IES students to Cremona, Parma, Montova, then finally to Castell’Arquato. We saw many Duomos and theaters, walked around a lot, and also ate a lot(which was the best part.)

    Last weekend I finally traveled outside of Italy and went to Brussels! I went with two of my roommates but many IES students also went to the Brussels the same weekend to attend a concert called Sensation. We also went to Sensation but we had all day Saturday to explore the city which mostly involved eating.

    Milan Fashion Week just ended yesterday and what better way to end it than by going to a fashion show! This past weekend was also carnivale for Milan so we attempted to walk to the Duomo square to partake the the festivities.

    The weekend of the 17th a few of my roommates and I took the train to Venice for carnivale! It was great. There were a lot of people on the train who also were on their way to carnivale.

    Apparently this is the coldest winter Milan had had 50 years or so. While I don’t disagree that it is uncomfortably cold it is not all that bad, especially when it is snowing! My one wish while I was abroad in Milan was that it would snow so I was astatic when it did.

    It’s hard to believe i’ve been in Milan for three weeks now. It feels like it has been longer. I just ended my second week of my intensive italian course and it is indeed, intense. We are learning so much so fast.
